Hoan Kiem Lake lights up with joyful Mid-Autumn festival

Saturday, 08:32, 26/09/2026

VOV.VN - The Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Communal House Club, organized the 2026 Full Moon Festival procession on the evening of September 25 (the 15th day of the eighth lunar month) around the pedestrian zones of Hoan Kiem Lake in a joyful and bustling atmosphere.

The Full Moon Festival night is part of the "Luu trang pho co 2026" (Preserving Moonlit Old Quarter 2026) cultural activity series.

This is the second consecutive year that the traditional Mid-Autumn lantern procession has been held around the Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian zone, bringing a traditional festive atmosphere to local residents, children, and visitors.

During the Full Moon Festival night, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem Ward and the organizers presented meaningful gifts to encourage disadvantaged children with good academic achievements in the ward.

Featuring a rich variety of lanterns and Mid-Autumn toys diverse in designs and materials, ranging from carp lanterns, crescent moon lanterns, scroll lanterns, and star lanterns to animal models...

Each artwork possesses visual appeal while showing the meticulous effort in creative thinking and restoration techniques of traditional craftsmanship.

Notably, during this year's Full Moon Festival procession, a model of the Pen Tower and Inkstone is solemnly carried, closely associated with the Hoan Kiem Lake space and symbolizing the studious tradition and respect for knowledge of Hanoians.

The imagery of the Pen Tower and Inkstone alongside the paper doctor figure creates a meaningful highlight, honoring the values of education, knowledge, and the noble aspirations of the Vietnamese people.

Along with the paper doctor figure, the two stick-wielding figures are indispensable and meaningful toys of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The procession comprises 14 contingents, led by lion dances, dragon dances, and festive drumming.

Following that are the Moon Palace float, model lanterns, folk toys, ceremonial guards, and children's lantern contingents.

The combination of artistic performances, handicraft products, and community participation creates a colorful, engaging, and accessible Mid-Autumn festival.

The Full Moon Festival procession around Hoan Kiem Lake serves as a highlight activity, connecting and converging the colors of the "Luu trang pho co 2026" (Preserving Moonlit Old Quarter 2026) activity series.

The Full Moon Festival procession also brings cultural values, traditional Mid-Autumn images, and products from heritage spaces to the community through a large-scale cultural event in the heart of the capital.

The procession serves as a nighttime cultural rendezvous where residents and visitors experience the atmosphere of Hanoi's Mid-Autumn Festival through illumination, performing arts, and traditional handcrafted toys.

This year's festival atmosphere is also refreshed by musical compositions dedicated to the "Luu trang pho co 2026" (Preserving Moonlit Old Quarter 2026) series, including the song "Ruc Den Trong Trang" (Moonlight Lantern Procession) by Truc Dong, which helps create a joyful and vibrant rhythm for the lantern procession around Hoan Kiem Lake.

This is also an activity that enriches the community's spiritual life, enhances the appeal of the Hoan Kiem Lake space, and promotes the cultural image of Hanoi to visitors.

Many international visitor families enthusiastically join their children in the procession.

Jonathan Wallace Baker, Head of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam, also participates in the Full Moon Festival procession.
