Northern Vietnam to see first cold air mass around September 9
VOV.VN - An early-season cold air mass is forecast to reach northern Vietnam next week that will bring a slight drop in temperatures along with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
According to weather experts, the cold air mass is expected to begin affecting Vietnam around September 9. However, as the cold spell is forecast to be weak, it will mainly bring a slight drop in temperatures in northern areas, accompanied by scattered showers and thunderstorms.
In Hanoi, the daily high is forecast to reach around 33°C on September 9, about 2°C lower than the previous day. Temperatures are expected to fall slightly further to 31-32°C on September 10-11, with showers continuing in the capital.
Winter cold spells expected to be weaker
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, cold air activity from September to November 2026 is expected to be weaker than the long-term average for the same period.
This trend is forecast to continue through December 2026 and January 2027. Severe cold and damaging cold spells are likely to arrive later than usual, while the number of days affected by severe or damaging cold will be below the long-term average.
The first cold air mass in September will therefore mark a seasonal transition rather than bring widespread cold weather.
