PM Le Minh Hung outlines three major orientations for BRICS at 18th Summit
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 13, where he proposed three key directions for the bloc to enhance global economic resilience and spur inclusive growth.
The summit, hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who serves as the BRICS Chair for 2026, gathered heads of state, government leaders, and international organization representatives to mark the 20th anniversary of the bloc.
Opening the discussions, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the core priorities of resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability under a people-centric approach that places humanity above all, while calling for comprehensive reforms in global governance across representation, responsiveness, and rule-making.
Discussions covered global and regional issues of common concern, including global governance reform, multilateral mechanisms, regional peace and stability, and sustainable, inclusive economic growth.
Leaders reaffirmed their determination to deepen cooperation across BRICS's three pillars of politics-security, economy-finance, and culture and people-to-people ties in pursuit of peace and a more representative, equitable global order. They agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, sci-tech, energy security, agriculture, food security, just energy transition, environment protection, health care and people-to-people exchanges.
They also laid stress on the need for stable energy markets, uninterrupted supply from diversified sources, and stronger resilience and protection for critical energy infrastructure.
Speaking at the session themed "Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth", PM Hung affirmed that Vietnam supports closer coordination between BRICS and regional, inter-regional, and global multilateral mechanisms to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development.
The Vietnamese leader outlined three strategic directions for the future role of the bloc, calling, first, for a shift from reactive shock management to proactive economic resilience; second, for the revitalization of traditional growth drivers alongside the creation of new, inclusive, and sustainable ones through trade and investment policy coordination, market openness, and fair access to green and digital financing; and third, for the translation of scientific and technological cooperation into concrete projects through joint research, workforce training, and technology transfer in high-impact fields such as artificial intelligence, digital technology, smart agriculture, and clean energy.
Highlighting Vietnam's national development orientation centered on people, institutional reform, modern governance, and science and technology while balancing economic growth with social equity and environmental protection, the Government chief assured Vietnam's readiness to cooperate with BRICS members in fostering an equitable, peaceful, and prosperous future.
The summit concluded with leaders reaching broad consensus on strengthening multilateral cooperation across political-security, economic-financial, and cultural-people pillars, ensuring energy market stability, and tackling pressing global challenges, with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung's speech warmly welcomed and highly appreciated by the host country and participating leaders.
