VOV.VN -Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended the discussion session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 13, under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability", chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BRICS Chair for 2026.
The conference was attended by heads of state, heads of government, and numerous high-ranking leaders from member states, partner countries, guest nations, as well as international and regional organizations. This is the most significant event within India’s 2026 BRICS Chairmanship year, marking the 20th anniversary of the formation and development of BRICS.
It is anticipated that in his address at the summit, PM Le Minh Hung will share Vietnam's vision, assessments, and proposals in its capacity as a BRICS partner country regarding major international cooperation issues concerning peace, the promotion of economic growth, sustainable development, and the resolution of global challenges.
Through this, PM Hung will affirm Vietnam's message of readiness to work alongside BRICS member states and partners, as well as the international community, to promote new growth drivers, strengthen connectivity and development cooperation, amplify the voice and role of emerging economies and developing countries, and strive toward an inclusive and sustainable future where development achievements are widely shared among all people.
The group of emerging economies (BRICS) was established in 2006. After 20 years of formation and development, evolving from an economic and financial policy coordination forum, BRICS has become a multilateral cooperation mechanism with an increasingly growing role and influence, contributing to the promotion of cooperation, the reinforcement of voices, and the contributions of emerging economies and developing countries in global affairs. To date, BRICS comprises 11 member states and 10 partner countries, including Vietnam. Currently, BRICS member states and partner countries account for approximately 44% of global GDP and 56% of the world's population.
The 18th BRICS Summit takes place on September 12 and 13, 2026, in India, under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability". During its 2026 chairmanship, India has actively accelerated the continued implementation of initiatives adopted at the 2025 Summit in Brazil while proposing new initiatives across labor, employment, women's empowerment, startups, transportation, energy, urban affairs, agriculture, infrastructure, and data.
Over the past period, in its capacity as a partner country, Vietnam has engaged in activities within the BRICS framework in a proactive and active spirit, making responsible contributions to shared global efforts, upholding multilateralism and international law, fostering solidarity and international cooperation, and enhancing the role of developing countries while contributing to deepening bilateral relations with BRICS members.
The country has also proactively participated in specific cooperation mechanisms and initiatives in line with national priorities, initially contributing to expanding cooperation channels, intensifying the exchange of experience, and gaining access to new technological trends and initiatives.
