Vietnam, Cambodia bolster legislative cooperation, people-to-people ties
VOV.VN - Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Thanh met with President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Khuon Sudary in Hanoi on July 29 to discuss measures for deepening legislative ties and parliamentary diplomacy.
Nguyen Thi Thanh, who also serves as Chairwoman of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Parliamentary Group and President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association, welcomed the high-level Cambodian delegation on their official visit to Vietnam.
The Vietnamese parliamentary leader noted that bilateral relations continue to expand across key fields, including trade, tourism, culture, defense, and security. She noted that friendship associations in both nations have updated their working methods, citing a 2025 business club conference that resulted in multiple cross-border investment agreements.
Nguyen Thi Thanh urged Cambodian NA President Khuon Sudary to continue supporting the two Friendship Parliamentary Groups in sharing legislative expertise to enhance parliamentary efficiency. She also expressed hopes that Cambodian authorities will maintain favorable conditions and assist with legal documentation for the community of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia to stabilize their lives and contribute to the host country.
"Looking ahead to the 60th anniversary of Vietnam - Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 - June 24, 2027), Nguyen Thi Thanh stated that the friendship groups will work in close coordination to implement practical joint programs to celebrate the historic milestone and educate younger generations on traditional solidarity.
In response, Cambodian NA President Samdech Khuon Sudary was appreciative of the proposals and highlighted the pivotal role of parliamentary and people-to-people diplomacy in solidifying bilateral cooperation.
She reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness to assist Vietnam in searching, gathering, and identifying the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Cambodia, contributing to the success of the ongoing 500-Day and Night Campaign.
Earlier the same morning, Cambodian NA President Samdech Khuon Sudary visited the 108 Military Central Hospital in Hanoi.
