Top leader says Vietnam–Cambodia ties are a priceless shared asset
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has reiterated Vietnam's commitment to strengthening comprehensive relations with Cambodia, describing bilateral ties as a shared asset that should continue to be nurtured for future generations.
At a meeting with visiting Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary, in Hanoi on July 28, the top leader said Vietnam consistently supports a peaceful, stable and prosperous Cambodia and stressed that relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) are a key foundation for political trust and broader bilateral cooperation.
Welcoming the outcomes of earlier talks between Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Cambodian parliamentary leader, he encouraged the two legislatures to further promote joint programmes and projects while improving legal and policy frameworks to facilitate trade, investment, economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
He also called for stronger coordination through Party, parliamentary and government channels to guide cooperation between ministries, sectors and localities, alongside making full use of existing bilateral and trilateral mechanisms involving Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
For her part, Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary congratulated Vietnam on its recent development achievements and expressed confidence that the country would continue making progress under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
She conveyed greetings from King Norodom Sihamoni, CPP President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet to Vietnamese leaders.
She reiterated Cambodia's commitment to its friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, saying the two countries' relationship has been forged through history and continues to grow stronger despite changing regional and global circumstances.
She said preserving and promoting the traditional friendship between the two countries is both a responsibility to history and a commitment to future generations.
The Cambodian parliamentary leader also informed her host that the two legislatures are actively implementing agreements reached by senior leaders. She described the February 2026 meeting between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the CPP as an important guideline for further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Both leaders emphasised the strategic importance of Vietnam–Cambodia relations as well as cooperation among Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
They agreed to continue strengthening political trust, expanding cooperation in defence and security, promoting economic connectivity and increasing people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides also pledged to enhance coordination through existing trilateral mechanisms involving the three countries' prime ministers, parliamentary leaders, defence ministers, public security ministers and foreign ministers.
On regional and international issues, both sides agreed to continue close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, particularly within ASEAN and Mekong subregional cooperation frameworks.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam voiced Vietnam's support for ASEAN centrality and its readiness to work with Cambodia and other member states to maintain peace and stability, strengthen regional unity and promote sustainable development across Southeast Asia.
