Top leader To Lam to deliver key speech at UN General Assembly during US visit
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam will attend the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, conduct bilateral activities in the United States, and pay a state visit to Canada from September 20 to 25.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang announced this at the ministry's regular press briefing on September 17 in Hanoi.
Since joining the United Nations in 1977, Vietnam has continuously consolidated and developed its relations with the organization across a variety of fields, ranging from promoting sustainable development to safeguarding international peace and security and dealing with global challenges.
Vietnam has proactively proposed initiatives, made practical contributions to joint efforts, and assumed vital responsibilities within key UN organs and forums, earning high praise from the international community. The country is also continuing its bids for membership and important roles in various UN mechanisms.
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States maintains a positive development momentum. Political and diplomatic relations continue to be strengthened through exchanges and contacts at all levels, while economic, trade, and investment ties sustain steady growth.
Defense and security cooperation has yielded notable results, particularly in post-war recovery efforts. Scientific and technological cooperation has expanded into high-tech domains such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, and high-quality human resource training. The US places high value on Vietnam's role and coordination in dealing with regional and global issues.
Meanwhile, the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Canada maintains stable and substantive development with ample room for further growth. Canada prioritizes the development of energy, strategic minerals, artificial intelligence, and high-tech agriculture, whereas Vietnam is accelerating industrial upgrading alongside digital and green economic development.
These similarities in demand and developmental orientation create strategic advantages for elevating bilateral relations to new heights.
During the high-level general debate of the United Nations General Assembly, Party General Secretary and President To Lam will deliver a keynote address, hold meetings with foreign leaders, international partners, and organizations, and leaders of the US administration and Congress.
During his state visit to Canada, the top Vietnamese leader is scheduled to meet with Governor General Louise Arbou, hold talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney, meet with Canadian parliamentary leaders, and engage in other important bilateral activities.
