Top Vietnamese leader, Thai King greatly value 50-year milestone of bilateral ties
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam and the King of Thailand have expressed appreciation for the positive developments in Vietnam-Thailand relations over the past 50 years, from friendly neighborliness to a Strategic Partnership in 2013 which was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework in 2025.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam held talks with King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua following the official welcoming ceremony for the King and Queen of Thailand on the morning of September 15 in Hanoi.
The host leader welcomed the King, the Queen, and the Thai Royal delegation on a state visit to Vietnam, emphasizing that the first state visit to Vietnam by a Thai King in 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1976 is of historic significance and marks an important milestone in the fine traditional friendship between Vietnam and Thailand, especially after the two countries upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025.
To Lam expressed sincere gratitude to the King and the Queen for the respectful, thoughtful, and warm reception extended to him, his spouse, and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation during his official visit to Thailand in May 2026.
General Secretary and State President To Lam congratulated the Kingdom of Thailand, under the wise reign of the King, on achieving prominent developmental milestones in maintaining stability and socio-economic growth, positioning Thailand as a major economy in Southeast Asia and a leading global tourism powerhouse. He highly appreciated the role of the King and the Royal Family in consolidating national unity, maintaining stability, developing communities, and improving people's living standards. To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always values its friendly neighborly relations and comprehensive cooperation with Thailand, expressing the desire for the two countries to continue accompanying and supporting each other's development to contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
The King of Thailand expressed delight at returning to visit Vietnam, highly appreciating the nation's strides in national development and the enhancement of people's quality of life. The King thanked the State, Government, and people of Vietnam for the respectful and warm reception extended to the King and the Queen, assessing the visit as an opportunity for both nations to tighten relations and cooperate together for development.
He affirmed that the King and the Royal Family of Thailand always pay utmost attention to and support fostering the affection between the two countries and their people, as well as consolidating Vietnam-Thailand cooperative relations across all fields to bring mutual benefits to their people and serve the development of each nation. The King emphasized that the sound relations between Vietnam and Thailand will make an important contribution to peace, stability, and common development in the region.
Host and guest agreed to continue strengthening political trust through maintaining high-level and all-level visits and contacts, maximizing the efficiency of cooperation mechanisms, and coordinating effectively to deploy the Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Sharing fine sentiments between the people of the two countries as well as their cultural and traditional similarities, the two leaders agreed that the close bonds between their people serve as an exceptionally important foundation for the fine and long-lasting development of Vietnam-Thailand relations, acting as a driving force to boost increasingly flourishing friendship between the two nations.
They consented to direct the effective implementation of economic, trade, and investment cooperation in a connected and efficient manner; vigorously intensify people-to-people exchanges, education, culture, tourism, and transport connectivity; and enhance locality-to-locality cooperation to create more substantive connections as a contribution to further deepen bilateral relations.
The Party and State leader hailed the activities and projects sponsored by the Thai Royal Family in the fields of education and community development in Vietnam, affirming that Vietnam will continue to coordinate and offer favorable conditions for these meaningful activities to be effectively carried out.
General Secretary and State President To Lam thanked the King and the Royal Family of Thailand for their fine sentiments toward Vietnam, particularly their care for the Vietnamese community in Thailand and the preservation of President Ho Chi Minh memorial sites, which stand as meaningful symbols of history, cultural exchange, and friendship between the two countries’ people.
Regarding regional and international issues, the two leaders highly appreciated the coordination between Vietnam and Thailand at multilateral forums and regional and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, concurring to continue making active contributions to reinforcing ASEAN's solidarity, unity, and centrality.
They expressed their firm belief that the state visit to Vietnam by the King and Queen of Thailand will contribute to further consolidating friendship and political trust between the two countries as well as mutual understanding between their people, while creating a new impetus to bring the Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to develop in an increasingly profound, substantive, effective, and sustainable manner toward building exemplary cooperative relations between Vietnam and Thailand.
