Top leader To Lam highlights new momentum for Vietnam-Myanmar relations
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam said Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing’s official visit to Vietnam helps deepen the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation partnership between the two countries, and open new momentum for bilateral ties.
Addressing a banquet held on September 5 in honour of the Myanmar President and his encourage, Party General Secretary and President To Lam stressed that Vietnam and Myanmar treasure a longstanding and enduring friendship that has been continuously nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries.
The two countries share many similarities in history, culture, beliefs and customs. They have stood by, supported and assisted each other in the struggle for national independence, as well as in the cause of national construction and defence today.
According to the top leader of Vietnam, both countries are keen to strengthen friendship and comprehensive cooperation, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
“I am confident that, building on the positive outcomes of today’s talks between the President and me, together with the determination and joint efforts of the leaders and people of our two countries, the Vietnam-Myanmar comprehensive cooperation partnership will make new, more comprehensive, effective and substantive progress, bringing into full play the potential and strengths of each country.”
Party General Secretary and President To Lam also congratulated Myanmar on its achievements in stabilising the situation, developing its economy and building the country, expressing his confidence that Myanmar would continue to achieve positive results in the time ahead.
Myanmar looks to deepen cooperation with Vietnam
In his response, President Min Aung Hlaing stressed that Myanmar attaches particular importance to its longstanding traditional friendship with Vietnam, which is built on mutual respect, understanding and strong friendship.
The Myanmar leader spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development, which have contributed to enhancing the country’s role, stature and international standing, and expressed his desire to learn from Vietnam’s development experience.
Highlighting Vietnam’s achievements after 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), President Hlaing wished Vietnam success in realising its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045.
He affirmed that he would continue working to nurture the traditional friendship and strengthen business connectivity between the two countries through bilateral economic forums, with a view to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Myanmar comprehensive cooperation partnership in 2027.
President Hlaing also emphasised that Vietnam is an important partner of Myanmar in economic and investment cooperation. He expressed his desire to further promote cooperation with Vietnamese businesses.
