Ta Xua named Asia’s Leading Emerging Tourism Destination 2026
VOV.VN - Ta Xua in northern Son La province has been named Asia’s Leading Emerging Tourism Destination 2026 at the 2026 World Travel Awards ceremony for Asia, Oceania and the Indian Ocean, held in the Maldives on September 27.
This marks the first time Ta Xua has been recognised in the category, placing the highland destination among emerging tourism destinations that attracts growing international attention.
In July 2026, Ta Xua was included on the World Travel Awards' list of nominees for the Asia category, alongside Ninh Binh as Vietnam's two representatives. They competed against Koh Kood in Thailand, Melaka in Malaysia, Morioka in Japan and Sumba Island in Indonesia.
Situated at an altitude of more than 1,500 metres, with some mountainous areas rising above 2,000 metres, Ta Xua is renowned for its spectacular seas of clouds rolling across the mountains.
The destination has become particularly popular among travellers seeking cloud-hunting experiences, pristine forests and seasonal flowers in Vietnam’s northwestern highlands.
Visitors can also explore the famous “dinosaur spine” mountain ridge, centuries-old Shan Tuyet tea plantations and villages where local Mong communities preserve traditional crafts such as weaving, indigo dyeing and beeswax pattern drawing.
From a cloud-hunting destination in Vietnam’s northwestern region, Ta Xua has increasingly gained international recognition, with its latest World Travel Awards title marking a new milestone for local tourism.
The recognition is expected to help Ta Xua strengthen links with travel companies, attract greater interest from international visitors and further improve its tourism products and services.
It also provides an opportunity to promote the landscapes, people and cultural identity of Ta Xua and Son La province to a wider international audience.
