Phu Quoc joins MICHELIN Guide as Vietnam's fourth destination
VOV.VN - Phu Quoc island has joined Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang as the fourth Vietnamese destination featured in the MICHELIN Guide, with its inaugural restaurant selection slated for release in 2027.
In an October 1 announcement, the MICHELIN Guide stated that Phu Quoc boasts a distinctive culinary identity deeply rooted in the sea, highlighted by exceptional local products such as its renowned fish sauce and aromatic pepper. "What has particularly captured our inspectors' attention is the duality of its down-to-earth fishing-village food culture, paired with an evolving dining scene shaped by international culinary talents," it noted.
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the MICHELIN Guide, said anonymous and independent inspectors will assess local eateries based on five universal criteria: ingredient quality, cooking technique mastery, flavor harmony, culinary personality, and consistency across the menu and over time.
The MICHELIN Guide debuted in Vietnam in 2023. By 2026, the local edition featured 193 establishments across Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, comprising 11 one-MICHELIN-star restaurants, 72 Bib Gourmand venues, and 110 MICHELIN Selected spots.
The MICHELIN Guide Vietnam 2027 restaurant selection will be unveiled at a ceremony in mid-2027.
