Gia Lai offers VND200 million support for each international charter flight
VOV.VN - The central province of Gia Lai will provide VND200 million (about US$7,600) for each international charter flight landing at Phu Cat Airport under a new tourism support policy approved for 2026–2027, as the province seeks to attract more international visitors.
The Gia Lai People’s Council approved the policy on September 30, setting the provincial budget support for each non-scheduled international charter flight landing at Phu Cat Airport.
The policy comes as the province plans to expand direct international air connections. Gia Lai received around 125,000 international visitors in 2025, accounting for only about 1% of the 12.4 million tourist arrivals recorded in the locality. Limited direct air services were identified as one of the factors behind the low proportion of international visitors.
The province has completed the second runway at Phu Cat Airport, enabling the airport to handle Code C and Code E aircraft.
Under the newly approved resolution, Gia Lai will also cut admission fees by 50% at major attractions and historical sites, including the ExploraScience Quy Nhon, Twin Towers, Banh It Towers, Quang Trung Museum and Bien Ho eco-tourism area.
To qualify for the support, travel companies must have their headquarters in Gia Lai or have local partners in the province. They must also commit to achieving a minimum seat occupancy rate of 50% during the first six months after entering a new market, rising to more than 70% thereafter.
Nearly VND95 billion (US$3.7 million) is expected to be allocated to implement the policy through the end of 2027.
The resolution will take effect on October 10, 2026, and remain in force until December 31, 2027.
Following the merger with Binh Dinh on July 1, 2025, the new Gia Lai province has gained a broader tourism space stretching from the Central Highlands to the coast, combining mountain and marine landscapes with diverse cultural and historical heritage.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has described the province as having strong potential for community-based, ecological, resort and cultural tourism, while noting the need to improve infrastructure and develop distinctive products to attract and retain domestic and international visitors.
