Vietnam to face Thailand at international U-23 tournament in Pleiku
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will host an international under-23 four-team tournament featuring Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Qatar from Nov 9 to 17 at Pleiku Stadium to prepare for the 2028 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers.

The event is expected to serve as a vital stepping stone for the 2028 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers. With three Southeast Asian participants, the competition also offers an opportunity to gear up for the 2027 SEA Games.
The AFC Executive Committee recently confirmed Japan as the host of the 2028 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, which doubles as the regional qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Teams are consequently preparing to field their strongest rosters for the qualifiers.
Vietnam recently concluded its ASIAD 2026 campaign, bowing out in the quarterfinals after a 4-0 loss to the Republic of Korea (RoK). Thailand similarly exited in the quarterfinals following a 3-0 defeat against China.
The upcoming friendly tournament in Gia Lai marks the second phase of preparation for the current under-23 squad under coach Kim Sang-sik ahead of major tournaments next year.
