Vietnam secure spot in quarter-finals of ASIAD 20 women's volleyball
VOV.VN - Vietnam swept Hong Kong (China) 3-0 on September 17 to secure their second consecutive victory and a place in the quarterfinals of the women's volleyball tournament at the 2026 Asian Games in Komaki, Japan.
Competing in Pool D at Park Arena Komaki, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s squad started strongly, building an early lead backed by the effective attacks and blocking of Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Anh Thao, and Bich Thuy. Despite a late surge from Hong Kong in the opening set, Thanh Thuy delivered crucial points to close out the win.
The team asserted complete control in the second set. Following a tightly contested start, Quynh Huong, Kim Thoa, and their teammates widened the gap, forcing their opponents into two timeouts before Tra My sealed the set with a powerful spike from position two.
Hong Kong put up stiffer resistance in the third set, maintaining a close race through the midpoint. However, the Vietnamese side pulled away after leading 16-13, with Anh Thao securing the final point to wrap up the straight-sets victory.
The result follows an opening victory over Qatar, securing the squad's spot in the knockout stage ahead of their final group match.
