Tourist boat sinks in Central Vietnam, all 19 people rescued safely
VOV.VN - All 19 people on board a tourist speedboat operating on the Cu Lao Cham – Cua Dai route off Da Nang City have been rescued and brought safely ashore after the vessel sank unexpectedly on the afternoon of June 8.
According to the Da Nang Border Guard Command, at around 3:20 p.m., authorities received a distress report that speedboat QNa-11 had sunk about 4.3 nautical miles east of the Cua Dai Border Guard Control Station.
Immediately after receiving the report, the Cua Dai Border Guard Station deployed two rescue boats and 14 officers and soldiers, coordinating with local forces to carry out rescue operations.
All 19 people on board, including three crew members and 16 passengers, were rescued safely.
The speedboat had departed from Cu Lao Cham at 2 p.m. the same day. At the time of the incident, sea conditions in the Cua Dai area were relatively normal.
The vessel belonged to a tourism company based in Da Nang City. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
The Cua Dai – Cu Lao Cham route is a busy tourist waterway connecting Hoi An mainland with Cu Lao Cham Island. However, the area has recorded several maritime accidents in the past due to rapidly changing weather conditions, sudden storms and strong currents.
Previously, on February 26, 2022, a serious tourist speedboat accident in the same area left 17 people dead.
