Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue elevates Party-State relations

VOV.VN - The Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue is expected to become a direct, regular, and substantive channel for exchanging experience in Party building, policy making, governance, and national development, as well as other strategic issues of mutual concern between the two Parties and countries.

Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member and Permanent Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee's Secretariat, alongside a high-level CPV delegation, will pay an official visit to Singapore and co-chair the 1st Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Dialogue from August 24 to 25 at the invitation of the Central Executive Committee of the People's Action Party (PAP) of Singapore.

Speaking to the media ahead of the visit, Nguyen Manh Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s Party Committee, and Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted the significance of the visit. He emphasized that the event holds special significance with several historic milestones: it marks the first official visit by a Permanent Member of the CPV Central Committee's Secretariat to Singapore, as well as the inaugural meeting of the Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Dialogue mechanism.

This mechanism was agreed upon by the leaders of both sides during the State visit to Singapore by General Secretary and President To Lam last May. Notably, Vietnam is the first country in Southeast Asia to establish such a mechanism with Singapore's PAP.

These milestones attest to a new qualitative development in relations between the two Parties, providing an additional political foundation and momentum to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership while demonstrating both sides' resolve to turn high-level common perceptions and agreements into practice.

At the upcoming dialogue, both sides will engage in in-depth discussions on strategic issues of mutual concern and key areas of cooperation, including technology connectivity and human resource training. The mechanism is expected to become a direct, regular, and substantive channel for exchanging experiences in Party building, policy formulation, governance, and national development.

Looking back at more than half a century since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973, Vietnam and Singapore have built a relationship characterized by growing political trust, intertwined interests, and dynamic cooperation.

Political trust has been increasingly translated into practical benefits, underscored by the establishment of the Strategic Partnership in 2013 and its elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025. Visits to Singapore by General Secretary and President To Lam in 2025 and 2026, the visit to Vietnam by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in 2025, and this current visit by Permanent Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu serve as vivid evidence of the high level of political trust between the two Parties and nations.

In economy, trade, and investment, Singapore is currently a leading economic partner and the second-largest foreign investor in Vietnam, with over 4,500 active projects totaling US$ 97 billion in registered capital.

A major symbol of this cooperation is the network of 28 Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) operating nationwide. Additionally, both nations are boosting cooperation in emerging fields such as technology connectivity, clean energy, green finance, data centers, and semiconductor technology. Parallel to state ties, cooperation between the CPV and the PAP has become increasingly substantive, with cadre training standing out as a key area.

The visit by Permanent Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu is expected to push up substantive progress in three key areas: elevating strategic exchange and coordination between the two Parties; creating a breakthrough in technology connectivity by turning the "three-party cooperation model"  linking the State, businesses, and researchers of both Vietnam and Singapore, into concrete projects aimed not just at technology transfer, but moving toward the co-creation of technology, products, and ecosystems serving both nations; and upgrading cadre training into a key pillar of bilateral relations.

According to the Deputy FM, translating common perceptions into concrete programs, projects, and practical results is the primary goal. He expressed firm confidence that the visit by the Permanent Member of the Secretariat and the inaugural Strategic Dialogue will inject fresh momentum into this process, carrying the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership toward deeper, more effective, and sustainable development, for the benefit of both nations, and for a united and prosperous ASEAN.
