Two Vietnamese officers deployed as UN Headquarters experts
VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Hanoi on October 1 to present the State President and the Minister of National Defence's decisions dispatching four Vietnam People's Army officers to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Head of the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Board on Peacekeeping Operations, chaired the ceremony.
The deployment marks a step forward in the professional capacity of Vietnam's peacekeeping force, with two officers passing rigorous selection criteria to assume expert positions at UN Headquarters in the US, alongside two military observers assigned to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).
The four-officer roster comprises Lieutenant Colonels Hoang Trung Kien and Pham Thi Nguyet Minh, Major Do Huyen Trang, and Captain Vo Van Thien, who succeed outgoing personnel following comprehensive vetting and specialized training for multinational service.
Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, noted that the personnel demonstrated steadfast political resolve, sound ethics, and professional competence in line with UN requirements.
Addressing the event, Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao stressed that the assignment is a critical political mission entrusted by the Party, State, and military. He instructed the personnel to rapidly stabilize on-site operations, master local mechanisms, and uphold strict discipline.
Officers stationed at UN Headquarters must prioritize research, analysis, and strategic forecasting regarding UN peacekeeping policies. Concurrently, those deployed to UNISFA are required to closely monitor regional dynamics, carry out military observer duties effectively, and coordinate seamlessly with fellow Vietnamese personnel on the ground.
Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao urged all four officers to maintain political firmness, strictly adhere to Vietnam's foreign policy guidelines and military discipline, and safeguard the prestige of the Vietnam People's Army among international friends.
