VOV.VN - Politburo member and member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and a high-ranking CPV delegation arrived at Changi Airport around noon on August 24 (local time), beginning a two-day official visit to Singapore from August 24-25 at the invitation of the Central Executive Committee of the People’s Action Party (PAP) of Singapore.

Welcoming Tran Cam Tu at the airport on the Singaporean side were Minister of State for Defence Desmond Choo; Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Public Service Division Pragasam Christopher; and Director of the Southeast Asia Directorate II at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zhou Suli. On the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh and his spouse, alongside officials and staff members of the Embassy.

During the visit, the key Vietnamese Party official will co-chair the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue between the CPV and the PAP. The high-level leadership of both parties agreed to establish this strategic dialogue mechanism during the State visit to Singapore by General Secretary and President To Lam in May.

The official visit holds special significance, marking the first time a member of the CPV Secretariat has paid an official visit to the city island state. It also features the inaugural meeting of the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue, making Vietnam the first Southeast Asian country to establish such a mechanism with Singapore’s PAP.

The visit shows a new stage of development in party-to-party ties while building further political foundation and momentum to deepen the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It also demonstrates the shared resolve of both sides to turn high-level agreements and common perceptions into concrete outcomes.

Vietmam-Singapore ties have seen strong and substantive developments in recent years, particularly since both nations elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2013, with the historic milestone in 2025, when Viet Nam became Singapore’s first Comprehensive Strategic Partner among ASEAN member states. Singapore is now a key partner of Viet Nam in ASEAN. Party General Secretary and President To Lam’s consecutive visits to Singapore in 2025 and 2026, together with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s visit to Vietnam in 2025, demonstrate the close ties and high political trust between the two Parties and countries, while creating an important political foundation, with deep, broad, comprehensive and strategic interwoven interests across areas of cooperation.

The official visit to Singapore and co-chairing of the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue by member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu further concretize the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, and the multilateralization and diversification of external relations set out by the 14th National Party Congress and Resolution No. 06 of the Politburo on major orientations for implementing the foreign policy as a contribution to creating a peaceful and stable environment, expanding development space and mobilizing resources to successfully achieve the country’s development goals.

The wide range of activities during the visit and the organization of the first Strategic Dialogue will create further momentum to strengthen political trust and the ties between the senior leaders of the two countries, further forge the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Singapore and effectively implement the high-level Strategic Dialogue mechanism between the two ruling Parties.

At this dialogue, both will engage in extensive discussions on strategic issues of mutual concern and key areas of cooperation between the two Parties and countries in the coming period, including technology connectivity and cooperation in human resource training.
