VOV.VN - National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man has highlighted the growing effectiveness of parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and France, saying closer legislative ties are helping deepen the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.

Receiving outgoing French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet in Hanoi on September 3, NA President Man spoke highly of Brochet’s contributions to strengthening and deepening the Vietnam-France comprehensive strategic partnership.

He said bilateral ties have continued to develop positively and comprehensively, with cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the French Parliament becoming increasingly effective through delegation exchanges and meetings between leaders, specialised agencies and parliamentarians of the two countries.

According to the top legislator, parliamentary cooperation is helping open a new phase of bilateral relations, with an increasingly substantive and wide-ranging framework for cooperation under the comprehensive strategic partnership.

The two legislative bodies have also played an important role in overseeing the implementation of bilateral agreements and cooperation commitments, helping strengthen political trust and create favourable conditions for stable and sustainable development of bilateral ties.

He proposed that the two sides continue delegation exchanges at all levels, maintain existing cooperation mechanisms and promote cooperation between localities, thereby expanding collaboration in politics and diplomacy, trade and investment, science and technology, education and training, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Notably, he announced that the Vietnamese National Assembly has established the Vietnam-France Parliamentary Friendship Group.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly stands ready to work with the French Parliament to further improve the legal framework and facilitate bilateral cooperation, including activities by French businesses and investors in Vietnam.

French ambassador pledges continued support for Vietnam

Ambassador Brochet, for his part, said he was pleased to have witnessed and contributed to important developments in France-Vietnam relations, particularly the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Reflecting on his time in Vietnam, Brochet expressed his affection for and deep impressions of the country, its people, culture and dynamic development.

He affirmed that France attaches importance to Vietnam’s increasingly prominent role and position in the region and the international arena, and wishes to continue accompanying Vietnam in its new development phase.

The ambassador spoke highly of the contribution of cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the French Parliament to strengthening political trust and promoting multifaceted bilateral cooperation.

He assured his host that regardless of the position he holds in the future, he would continue to maintain his affection and interest in Vietnam and contribute to strengthening friendship and advancing the Vietnam-France comprehensive strategic partnership in a substantive, effective and sustainable manner.
