VOV.VN - Ceremonies celebrating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Thailand diplomatic relations (August 6, 1976 - August 6, 2026) were held in the central province of Nghe An and Da Nang City on August 10, highlighting half a century of friendship following the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025.

In Nghe An, the ceremony was co-organized by the Thai Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association, and the provincial People's Committee.

Chairman of the Nghe An provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai stressed that two-way trade between the province and Thailand reached approximately US$100 million, with 9 Thai FDI projects totaling more than US$241 million concentrated in industrial park infrastructure, supporting industries, food processing, and electronics.

Around 5,000 people from Nghe An currently reside in Thailand. He affirmed Nghe An's commitment to creating a transparent investment environment and expanding cooperation in high-tech agriculture, logistics, energy, and tourism.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, President of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association, emphasized: "If state diplomacy opens the way, people-to-people diplomacy serves as the bridge connecting hearts."

He called for expanded connections in digital transformation, green economy, and innovation. Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Urawadee Sriphiromya and President of the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association Sanan Angubolkul affirmed that bilateral relations have flourished across all fields based on mutual trust and the motto "Growing Together." On this occasion, the organizers published the book "Vietnam - Thailand: 50 Years of Cooperation for Mutual Development (1976-2026)".

On the same day, Da Nang City, in coordination with the Thai Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, held a commemorative event featuring cultural performances, including Thailand's Khon masked dance theatre and Da Nang's Bai Choi art.

Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi and Thai Consul General Wiraka Moodhitaporn underscored the vital role of local-level partnerships in deepening bilateral relations.

Da Nang currently maintains official friendly relations with Thailand's Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. As of late July 2026, Thailand registered 16 investment projects in Da Nang worth over US$112 million.

In 2025, Da Nang's export turnover to Thailand reached nearly US$129 million. In the first half months of 2026, the city welcomed around 204,000 Thai visitors, accounting for 3.92% of its total international arrivals.

Cooperation in education, training, and people-to-people exchanges between Da Nang and Thailand has been actively and effectively implemented as a contribution to consolidating and deepening the traditional friendship between the two nations.
