Spanning the Binh Ba River in Dak Lak province, the Ong Cop wooden bridge has long become a unique symbol of the Central Highlands region. It is not only the longest wooden bridge, measuring around 800 meters in length, in Vietnam but also the one with the shortest lifespan, appearing once a year.

Every year during the rainy season, parts of the bridge are swept away by floods, leaving only a few wooden piles on the surface of the water. When the water recedes, local villagers work together to rebuild it for usage. The average lifespan of the wooden structure is only about 9-10 months.

The bridge is approximately 800 meters long and 2 meters wide, it is made from wood, bamboo and steel wires. For many years, it has been a vital route, facilitating daily life and trade for people on both sides of the river.

According to local residents, the wooden bridge has been around for nearly 30 years, becoming an essential part of the lives of locals for many generations. It helps to shorten the travel distance between Xuan Dai ward and Tuy An Dong commune to about 1 km, instead of having to take a detour of more than 10 km.

The bridge costs nearly VND1 billion.

The wooden structure serves as an important crossing for local residents, mainly accommodating motorbikes, bicycles and pedestrians.

Once the flood season ends, local residents gather to clean up debris, repair damaged sections and rebuild the bridge once again. The process has repeated itself for years, leading many people to describe Ong Cop as “the bridge reborn every year.”

From high above, the area surrounding Ong Cop Bridge resembles a vibrant painting. Encircling the bridge are peaceful small fishing villages, where old tiled-roof houses nestle under the shade of lush green coconut trees.

The bridge not only serves the travel needs of local residents but has also become an attractive check-in spot for tourists.

Near Ong Cop Bridge, the figures of fishermen casting their nets and casting their lines can be seen. The scene of fishing nets, shrimp ponds, oyster and fish farms clustering together on the water's surface creates a unique characteristic of the estuary region.

Early morning or late afternoon are the ideal time to visit the bridge as the weather is cool, and the conditions are perfect for taking photos or capturing poetic sunrise and sunset moments.

Ong Cop Bridge may not be a grand architectural structure, but people remember it precisely because of its simplicity: a bridge built by human hands, erased by nature and patiently rebuilt again year after year.
