The welcoming ceremony for the Lao leader and his entourage takes place at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on the morning of January 26.

Thongloun Sisoulith is the first foreign head of state to visit Vietnam in 2026. He is also the first foreign leader received by Party General Secretary To Lam in his capacity as General Secretary of the 14th-tenure Party Central Committee.

A 21-gun salute is given to top Lao leader Thongloun Sisoulith at a welcoming ceremony hosted by Party General Secretary To Lam.

The State visit takes place as the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) have just successfully held their respective national congresses in January 2026.

After the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders move to the Party Central Committee’s Office for high-level talks to enhance cooperative relations between the two parties and countries.
