Muong ethnic people holds traditional festival to pray for bumper harvests

VOV.VN - The Muong ethnic group in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak lowered the Neu pole erected for the Lunar New Year holiday, in a traditional festival on February 5, to pray for bumper harvests and prosperity throughout the year.

The festival is observed annually from the 7th to the 10th days of the first lunar month, marking the end of the New Year celebrations and the beginning of a new year of agricultural work.

Crowds of the Muong in different colourful outfits gather in Buon Ma Thuot city to prepare for the festival.

Festival-goers take part in rituals, expressing gratitude to the deities who protect and bless the villagers.

The festival symbolizes the hope for a year of abundant crops, favourable weather, and protection from natural disasters or epidemics.

During the festival, a number of cultural and sports activities are also held, including drum and gong performances.

Folk games such as wooden drum dancing, shuttlecock throwing, tug-of-war, and crossbow shooting draw attention from many locals and tourists.

These contests showcase the villagers' skills in farming and celebrate the agricultural spirit.

The festival is typically held at the village communal house or an open space near the fields, creating a sacred and lively atmosphere.
