After a two-hour flight, the national team arrive in Thailand at midday on January 3 to prepare for their second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 final against hosts Thailand, which is scheduled to take place two days later.

On the evening of January 2, Vietnam secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg, gaining an advantage over Thailand. This marks the first time in 27 years that Vietnam have defeated Thailand at home since their 3-0 victory back in the 1998 Tiger Cup.

However, with only a one-goal difference, the second leg remains highly unpredictable. The rematch between Vietnam and Thailand will take place at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on January 5.

Representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand and Vietnamese fans welcome the senior team at the airport.

In the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 finals at Viet Tri Stadium on the evening of January 2, naturalised striker Nguyen Xuan Son (L) struck a brace to help hosts Vietnam secure a 2-1 victory over their Thai rivals.

At a press conference held on the evening of January 2, head coach Kim Sang-sik shares that the Vietnamese team's victory over Thailand is significant, giving fans renewed hope for the coming year.

Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai will be one of key players in the upcoming fixture.

The victory of the Vietnamese team in the first leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup finals at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho province helps them to gain an advantage before the second leg at Rajamangala Stadium of Thailand on January 5.
