In celebration of the 79th National Day on September 2, a solemn national flag-hoisting ceremony is held at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi on the same day.

The gates of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum first open at 5:50am.

At 5:55 a.m., soldiers from the Command of Protection for the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum get the event underway at the historic Ba Dinh Square located in Hanoi.

The guards’ formation consists of a total of 37 soldiers. The military victory flag leads the formation, followed by 34 comrades representing the first 34 soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army.

Three soldiers holding the red flag solemnly step onto a podium in preparation to undertake the main ritual.

The soldier holds the red flag as he waits for the command and the commencement of the national anthem.

When the national anthem begins to play, the national flag is slowly lifted up. Accordingly, once the national anthem ends, the national flag then reaches the top of the flagpole in sync with its conclusion.

Thousands of people are present at Ba Dinh Square to witness the sacred flag-hoisting ceremony on Vietnam’s National Day.

Following the completion of the flag raising ritual, the guards march in front of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum back to their posts, signaling the end of the ceremony.
