VOV.VN - As a widespread heatwave pushes temperatures on airport aprons to 70-80 degrees Celsius, thousands of aviation workers continue working outdoors to ensure flight safety and keep airport operations running smoothly during the summer travel peak.

Late May sees widespread heatwaves across many parts of Vietnam, with temperatures in the northern and central regions ranging from 37-39 degrees Celsius and exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some areas, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

At airports, working conditions are even harsher as aircraft aprons absorb heat continuously, while hot air from aircraft engines and ground service equipment can push surface temperatures to 70-80 degrees Celsius. Despite the extreme conditions, thousands of Vietnam Airlines employees continue working at high intensity to ensure safe and uninterrupted operations during the summer travel peak.

From early morning until midday, the sight of workers in reflective uniforms moving constantly across airport aprons has become familiar to those in the aviation industry. Aircraft maintenance technicians continue carrying out inspections and servicing under the scorching heat radiating from the concrete surface. From engines and landing gear to electrical systems and the smallest technical details, every task requires absolute concentration and precision to ensure the safety of each flight.

Ground service teams are also entering the summer peak period with a demanding workload. Each day, Tran Tuan Nguyen, a ground service employee, and his colleagues carry out a range of tasks including aircraft towing, baggage transport, equipment operations and passenger support under harsh weather conditions.

Speaking about working during the peak heatwave period, Nguyen says there are times when the apron surface becomes so hot that just a few minutes outdoors leaves workers drenched in sweat. Despite the demanding conditions, employees continue encouraging one another to complete their duties, knowing that hundreds of passengers are waiting for safe and on-time flights.

“For us, seeing a flight take off smoothly is a source of pride and motivation to keep working under the extreme heat,” Nguyen shares.

Under the blazing heat, reflective uniforms soaked in sweat continue moving across airport aprons without pause. The scene has become both familiar and symbolic of the dedication of aviation workers, who place responsibility, safety and passenger service above all else. Beyond the apron area, operations at security checkpoints, flight operations control, refuelling and cargo handling units also continue at full pace despite the extreme temperatures.

Aviation security forces stay on constant standby to ensure absolute safety for airport operations. Despite the harsh weather, patrol, surveillance and control positions continue operating under strict procedures.

Pham Duc Minh, a technical operations employee, says the scorching heat on the apron requires every technical inspection, refuelling operation and equipment check to be carried out with absolute precision.“Even a minor mistake can affect an entire flight, so we have to stay highly focused despite working for hours under the heat,” Minh adds.

Temperatures on the apron at Noi Bai International Airport reach as high as 78 degrees Celsius. Even under the extreme heat, thousands of aviation workers continue working at their posts to maintain safe and on-time operations and ensure smooth travel experiences for passengers.

During the summer peak period, aviation workers and airport service teams are strengthening coordination to minimise the impact of extreme weather on flight operations and passenger experience.

Aircraft preparation, cabin cooling before departure, optimised ground handling times and faster boarding procedures are being carried out in coordination to help passengers travel more comfortably during the hot weather.

Operations units, passenger service teams and flight operations staff are also coordinating closely to shorten service times, reduce waiting times and ensure smooth operations at airports across the country.

Amid extreme heat across the flight network, the responsibility, professionalism and dedication of aviation workers continue to be reflected in their daily work, helping build the image of a modern and passenger-centred airline.
