The city scored 692 points, up 27 points from GFCI 39 released in March 2026. Its 17-place rise was second only to Copenhagen, Denmark, which climbed 19 places.
In GFCI 39, Ho Chi Minh City had already moved up 11 places from 95th to 84th. Across the two editions released in 2026, the city has therefore advanced a total of 28 places, from 95th to 67th.
It was also named among 15 financial centres that survey respondents expect to become more significant over the next two to three years.
In fintech, the southern metropolis climbed 12 places from 83rd to 71st, scoring 645 points, up 11 points from the previous edition.
Its overall GFCI score increased by around 4.1%, outpacing the global average increase of 0.8% and the Asia-Pacific average of 1.48%. The results are a positive sign of Ho Chi Minh City’s competitiveness and development prospects within the international financial network.
The GFCI is compiled by UK-based Z/Yen Partners in collaboration with the China Development Institute and is published twice a year, in March and September. GFCI 40 assessed 139 financial centres worldwide, with 117 included in the final rankings.
