Da Nang International Financial Centre joins sustainable finance network
VOV.VN - A working delegation from the central city of Da Nang led by Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Manh Hung held a working session with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York on September 25.
They witnessed the announcement of the Vietnam International Financial Centre in Da Nang (VIFC-DN) becoming a member of the Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S) network, coordinated by the UNDP.
Attendee at the meeting were Marcos Athias Neto, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator, and Director of the UNDP Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, along with Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN. Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung expressed thanks for the UNDP's steadfast companionship with Da Nang over recent years, particularly in innovation, circular economy, green transition, climate change adaptation, and sustainable urban development.
In its new development phase, Da Nang desires to further deepen cooperation with UNDP, especially in mobilizing international resources, accessing advanced models and standards, and implementing initiatives capable of generating practical impacts on the city's socio-economic development.
The municipal Chairman noted that Da Nang has a high demand for investment resources directed toward strategic infrastructure, urban transport, energy, digital transformation, innovation, green urban development, and climate adaptation. These are also sectors where the city seeks to increase the mobilization of long-term and sustainable international capital.
UN Assistant Secretary-General Marcos Athias Neto emphasized that Vietnam is a premier important partner of the UNDP, noting that both sides will actively carry out the Country Programme for 2027-2031, focusing on four priorities: climate change response and environmental protection; economic and digital transformation; inclusive human development; and governance and rule of law.
The UN official hailed Da Nang's green, sustainable, and innovation-driven development orientation, affirming that the UNDP stands ready to continue accompanying the city in promoting sustainable development activities.
Within the framework of the working session, the announcement event marked VIFC-DN joining the FC4S network. Membership in FC4S right from the formative stage of VIFC-DN is expected to enable the center to access international experience, standards, and best practices in green and sustainable finance, while broadening connections with global financial centers, financial institutions, and international investors.
The Vietnam International Financial Centre in Da Nang (VIFC-DN) was established under Government Decree No. 323/2025/NĐ-CP dated December 18, 2025, oriented to become a next-generation financial center focusing on financial technology (fintech), green finance, trade finance, piloting new financial models, specialized trading platforms and exchanges, and developing specialized financial products such as investment funds and asset management.
VIFC-DN is set to attract international capital into key sectors including infrastructure, energy, technology, green economy, trade, and tourism. Established in 2017 with UNDP coordination, the FC4S network gathers 44 financial centers aiming to mobilize financial resources to serve national sustainable development goals, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.
