Nearly 1,000 people don traditional attire in Can Tho for Vietnam-Japan cultural parade
VOV.VN - Close to 1,000 people participated in a traditional costume walk and parade in Can Tho, southern Vietnam, on September 12, featuring the cultural heritage of Vietnam and Japan.
The event, held at Luu Huu Phuoc Park in Ninh Kieu ward, serves as a highlight of the 2026 Vietnam-Japan Culture and Trade Exchange Program in Can Tho. The initiative aims to promote friendship, mutual understanding, and trust between Can Tho and Japanese localities, organizations, businesses, and citizens, thereby deepening bilateral relations.
Attendees included Japanese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ono Masuo, representatives from Japanese local governments and organizations, Can Tho leaders, local officials, students, and residents.
Clad in distinctive traditional garments, including Vietnam’s graceful ao dai (long traditional dress), traditional ba ba shirts, and khan ran (traditional checkered scarves) alongside Japanese kimonos, participants walked along Hoa Binh Avenue, Can Tho's central thoroughfare, to promote cultural bonds between the two nations.
Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho People's Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep noted that the meaningful program promotes the cultural beauty of both countries, strengthens people-to-people ties, and raises funds to support disadvantaged children in the city, turning bilateral friendship into practical, humanitarian actions.
The 2026 Vietnam-Japan Culture and Trade Exchange Program runs from September 11 to 13, featuring more than 100 booths alongside cultural exchange, commercial, and networking activities. Launched in Can Tho in 2015, the program has successfully held six editions, growing into a key external affairs and trade promotion platform that connects local authorities, organizations, businesses, and people of both nations.
