Vietnam jumps seven positions in global Travel & Tourism Development Index
VOV.VN - Vietnam scored 4.15 points, ranking 52nd out of 110 economies in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2026 released on September 26, marking an increase of seven places compared to 2024 and 11 places compared to 2019.
According to the World Economic Forum (WEF) which announced the TTDI 2026 on September 26, The country's tourism development capacity index has improved across the infrastructure, tourism resources, the environment, and safety, as well as the ability to meet market demand.
The TTDI, developed by the WEF, measures the factors and policies enabling sustainable and resilient development in the travel and tourism sector. It evaluates countries across five dimensions and 17 pillars focusing on aspects such as infrastructure, sustainability, socioeconomic impact, and demand pressures, serving as a benchmarking tool for policymakers and stakeholders to inform investment decisions and strategic planning.
The TTDI 2026 framework is organized around 5 dimensions, 17 pillars, and 102 individual indicators, centering on the environment, policies, infrastructure and services, tourism resources, and tourism sustainability.
In 2026, Vietnam's TTDI score increased by 6.1% compared to 2024. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked fifth, trailing Singapore (13th), Indonesia (23rd), Malaysia (26th), and Thailand (38th). Notably, Vietnam's score improvement rate of 6.1% surpassed that of Indonesia (2.2%), Malaysia (5.8%), Thailand (5.8%), and Singapore (3.3%).
Vietnam is placed among the world's top 35 economies in 7 out of the 17 pillar indicators: Price Competitiveness (7th), Safety and Security (9th), Cultural Resources (21st), Natural Resources (22nd), Tourism Demand Sustainability (27th), Non-Leisure Resources (30th), and Air Transport Infrastructure (34th).
Six other indicators fall into the upper-middle group: Ground and Port Infrastructure (43rd), Human Resources and Labor Market (50th), ICT Readiness (58th), Business Environment (63rd), Tourism Openness (67th), and Health and Hygiene (68th). Thus, 13 of Vietnam's 17 pillar indicators are listed in the upper-middle or top global groups.
Meanwhile, four indicators remain in the lower-middle and low categories: Tourism Infrastructure and Services (74th), Environmental Sustainability (76th), Prioritization of Tourism (97th), and Socio-Economic Impact of Tourism (106th).
