In TasteAtlas' ranking, the Vietnamese dish scored 4.2 out of five points, behind Indonesia's perkedel and tempeh mendoan.
The food website described rau muống xào tỏi as a traditional dish suitable for vegetarians, made with a combination of morning glory (water spinach), garlic, fish sauce, salt, sugar and oyster sauce.
The vegetable dish is served hot, usually as part of a three-course meal. The first course is a stir-fry, the second is a boiled or steamed dish, and the third is a soup. Rau muống xào tỏi also makes a great accompaniment to white rice, TasteAtlas wrote.
This is not the first time rau muống xào tỏi has impressed international experts. Earlier, the food website The Restaurant hailed the dish as a "star", even though in Vietnam it is simply a side dish in family meals.
In late May 2025, during a visit to Vietnam, French President Emmanuel Macron and his spouse dined at a famous Vietnamese restaurant in Hanoi. Among the dishes on the menu, rau muống xào tỏi Ly Son drew attention alongside many other dishes. The French President's praise of the lunch as delicious, especially the vegetable dishes, helped bring the dish into the spotlight.
Previously, the dish was also a favourite among many Korean celebrities. In 2017, during the travel and food show Battle Trip broadcast on Korean television, Miss Korea Oh Hyun Kyung and actress Jung Si Ah enjoyed rau muống xào tỏi during their trip to Da Nang. Both praised it as a dish worthy of being considered a famous speciality, with a flavour that was in no way inferior to Korean kimchi.
Rounding out the top five were perkedel, tempeh mendoan, nasi kuning and sambal, all from Indonesia.
