VOV.VN - Vietnam's Phu Quoc is further strengthening its reputation as one of Asia's leading island destinations after being named among the world's most beautiful islands by the US-based travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler, highlighting the Vietnamese island's growing appeal to international visitors.

In its annual Readers' Choice Awards, Condé Nast Traveler included Phu Quoc in southern An Giang province among Asia's standout island destinations, based on votes from readers around the world.

The magazine praised the island's pristine white-sand beaches, including Bai Sao and Bai Truong, as well as its rich marine ecosystem, describing its coral reefs as among the finest diving and snorkeling sites in the region.

Beyond beach holidays, the publication highlighted a variety of experiences available on the island, including riding the Sun World Hon Thom, a sweeping sea-crossing cable car, and exploring the island’s black pepper plantations and spice harvesting.

Located just about an hour's flight from Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc was also recognised as an easily accessible destination for both domestic and international travelers.

This is far from the first time Phu Quoc has appeared in international travel rankings. In recent years, the island has been consistently featured by leading global travel publications and organizations as one of Asia's premier resort destinations, thanks to its natural beauty, high-quality hospitality infrastructure and increasingly diverse tourism offerings.

Topping the list is Crete in Greece. It's followed by Cape Breton in Canada, Galapágos Islands in Ecuador, Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, Bermuda, and Fiji. The Maldives, 11th globally, which has 1,000-plus paradisiacal islands and is readers' top pick in Africa ranks behind Vietnam.

Covering an area of 574 square kilometers, Phu Quoc is Vietnam's largest island. The destination's appeal is reflected in its robust visitor growth. According to the An Giang province’s Department of Tourism, the Phu Quoc Special Zone welcomed nearly 5.8 million visitors in the first half of the year, marking year-on-year increase of over 30%. Of this total, international arrivals reached 1.3 million, up 50.3% and achieving 65.7% of the annual target.

This surge in visitor numbers has driven a significant rise in tourism revenue. Phu Quoc's total tourism revenue for the first half of the year is estimated at over VND31 trillion, up 46% from last year and meets 69.2% of the annual plan.

Experts attribute Phu Quoc's growth momentum to several factors, including visa-free policies for international travelers, improving transport infrastructure, and the development of large-scale tourism, resort, and entertainment complexes.

Thanks to its diverse range of tourism products, Phu Quoc is increasingly attracting international visitors, particularly from markets such as the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), Kazakhstan, Mongolia, India, and Southeast Asian nations.
