A cultural trek from Sa Pa tops the list. Hill-tribe trails here remain a core part of the northern Vietnam experience, and hiking in the region has become increasingly popular.
Tribal treks around Bac Ha in Lao Cai come next. To truly immerse in local life, tourists are encouraged to go with a local guide and stay overnight in villages nestled among the emerald hills, the travel website advised.
Climbing the slopes of Fansipan also ranks among the top treks, with steep scrambles and breathtaking vistas across the Hoang Lien Mountains (Tonkinese Alps) when clouds clear.
Fourth on the list is Ba Be National Park, offering the quintessential Vietnamese highlands: limestone peaks, dense jungles teeming with birds, mammals, and butterflies, and dozens of villages inhabited by Tay, Dzao, and Hmong communities.
