World Cup champion Tran Thanh Luc wins national 3-cushion carom title
VOV.VN - Cueist Tran Thanh Luc closed out the HTV - Becamex IJC Cup 2026 International Three-Cushion Carom Billiards Tournament with a decisive 50-18 victory over Dinh The Vinh in the final, securing his first championship at the event along with a VND80 million cash prize.
The final took place on the afternoon of August 16 at the HTV Theater, featuring a high-stakes matchup between Luc and Vinh.
Luc entered the match as the 2025 Bogota World Cup champion, while Vinh had emerged as the tournament's surprise contender after defeating a series of formidable opponents.
However, the final proved one-sided. The 36-year-old international champion demonstrated his class, maintaining a steady scoring pace to quickly establish a wide lead.
Without needing high-scoring runs, Luc scored consistently with 4-, 5-, and 6-point innings to put pressure on Vinh. After just 9 innings, the former World Cup winner led 26-9 to head into the break with a commanding advantage.
After the interval, Vinh attempted a comeback but failed to mount sufficient scoring runs to narrow the gap. Meanwhile, Luc retained complete control, advancing steadily toward victory.
Luc sealed the 50-18 win after 17 innings, recording a high general average of 2.94 points per inning. The victory showed a clear difference in composure and big-match experience.
The title carries special meaning for Luc. It marks his first championship at the tournament, where his previous best finish was reaching the quarterfinals.
Along with the title, Luc received VND80 million (US$3,150) in prize money. Vinh took home VND40 (US$1,530) million for second place, while joint third-place finishers Mai Tan Huyen and Nguyen Nhat Hoa received VND20 million (US$765) each.
The victory reinforces Luc's position in Vietnam's three-cushion carom scene. He previously reached a career milestone by winning the 2025 Bogota World Cup, becoming the third Vietnamese player to win a World Cup leg, following Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Duc Minh.
