Vietnam tops Asian bodybuilding championships with 12 golds
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national bodybuilding team clinched first place overall at the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Thailand, bringing home 12 gold medals.
The tournament took place from Sept 22 to 28 in Bangkok under the governance of the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (ABBF) and the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF).
The event drew over 350 athletes from 25 countries and territories across Asia. Vietnam participated with a 28-member squad, finishing atop the medal tally with 12 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze medals, along with second-place team finishes in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Among the standout performers, Nguyen Van Tai from the Dong Nai delegation won a gold medal in the men's 55kg weight class, while his teammate Nguyen Ngoc Ngan The placed fifth in the women's 52kg division.
Adding to the delegation's success, Nguyen Thi Bich Ly, a lecturer and head of physical education at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Management (UMT), also claimed a gold medal. Holding a master's degree in education with over 12 years of university teaching experience, Ly previously won an Asian gold medal in 2018 and a national title in 2025 before securing top honors in Bangkok this year.
