Vietnam maintains unbeaten run after two rounds at Chess Olympiad

VOV.VN -The Vietnamese chess team wrapped up the second day of the 2026 Chess Olympiad with strong performance, maintaining a clean sweep of victories across both the men's and women's sections.

Following a successful opening round where both the men's and women's teams defeated Lesotho and Saudi Arabia by identical 4-0 margins, the Vietnamese squads entered the second round with high confidence against Luxembourg and Costa Rica on the evening of September 17."

In the open section, Vietnam's young lineup continued to demonstrate superior competitive composure against Luxembourg. The men's team closed out the second round undefeated, securing a convincing 3.5 - 0.5 victory, with Banh Gia Huy conceding a draw to Fred Berend.

Meanwhile, the women's section showcased the dominant form of the Vietnamese players. Facing a lower-rated Costa Rica side, the women's team allowed their opponents no chance to spring an upset across the four boards, sealing another 4-0 victory.

Securing maximum points after the opening two rounds, the Vietnamese chess team enjoys a good start in Samarkand as they prepare for the third round against anticipated tougher opponents.

Running from September 16 to 28, 2026, the 46th Chess Olympiad organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, draws participation from approximately 200 countries as a flagship event highlighting the strength and comprehensive development of global chess nations.
