Vietnam establishes pickleball federation to drive sport’s growth
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s pickleball movement has entered a new stage of development after the Ministry of Home Affairs approved the establishment of the Vietnam Pickleball Federation (VPF), paving the way for a more professional competition system and greater international integration.
A decision to this effect was signed by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vu Chien Thang on July 3. It marks a significant milestone in the development of pickleball in Vietnam, where participation has grown rapidly across the country in recent years.
According to the decision, the Vietnam Pickleball Federation is a nationwide socio-professional organisation operating under a charter approved by the Minister of Home Affairs and in accordance with Vietnamese law.
The federation has full legal status, its own official seal and bank account, and is financially self-sustaining. It will operate under the state management of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and other relevant authorities.
The establishment of the federation comes as pickleball has experienced remarkable growth throughout Vietnam.
Once a relatively unfamiliar sport, pickleball has quickly gained popularity among people of all ages thanks to its accessibility, suitability for a wide range of players and strong community appeal.
The rapid expansion of the sport has led to the establishment of numerous local clubs, while national and international tournaments have become increasingly common, making pickleball one of Vietnam’s fastest-growing recreational and competitive sports.
However, the rapid growth has also highlighted the need for a national governing body capable of coordinating development strategies, setting technical standards and overseeing a more structured competition system.
The Vietnam Pickleball Federation is expected to facilitate the sport's transition from a largely grassroots movement to a more organised, professional and sustainable development model.
The federation is expected to help standardise management and training, develop athletes, coaches and referees, establish a coordinated competition system, and strengthen international cooperation, with the aim of raising Vietnam’s standing in regional and global pickleball.
