Two gold medals for Vietnam on opening day at Asian Youth Chess Championship
VOV.VN - Vietnam's youth chess team won two gold medals on the opening day of the 2026 Asian Youth Chess Championship in Shenzhen, China, on July 16.
In the rapid chess event, International Master Pham Tran Gia Phuc claimed the boys' U18 individual title with an unbeaten record. The 17-year-old also won team gold with Vietnam.
Nguyen Vu Bao Chau took the girls' U10 rapid chess title, while Dau Khuong Duy earned a silver medal in the boys' U16 rapid chess event.
Following the opening day of rapid chess competition, the Vietnamese team will compete in the standard chess event from July 17.
The 28th Asian Youth Chess Championship runs from July 16 to 25 in Shenzhen, drawing more than 900 players from 30 Asian countries to compete in standard, rapid and blitz events across multiple age groups.
