Six golfers to represent Vietnam at ASIAD 20

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) has announced the shortlist of the six best players of the national golf team to represent the country at the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20) in Japan.

The squad comprises three male golfers - Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Khanh Hung and Nguyen Tuan Anh - and three female golfers - Le Chuc An, Nguyen Viet Gia Han and Le Nguyen Minh Anh (Anna Le). The team will be led by head coach Nguyen Thai Duong at the Games, scheduled to take place in Japan in late September.

The final roster was selected after the national coaching staff and the VGA evaluated a 10-player training squad announced in late May.

By opting for an all-amateur lineup, Vietnam is signalling its long-term commitment to developing young talent rather than focusing solely on immediate results. The strategy is intended to give promising golfers valuable experience at one of Asia's biggest multi-sport events and prepare them for future international competitions.

The players were selected based on their positions in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Among them, Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Khanh Hung and Le Chuc An all represented Vietnam at the 19th Asian Games and are expected to provide leadership for teammates making their ASIAD debut.

While Nguyen Tuan Anh will make his first appearance at the Asian Games, Nguyen Viet Gia Han and Le Nguyen Minh Anh will also face the biggest challenge of their young careers as they compete against many of Asia's top golfers.

The golf competition at the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20) will take place from September 30 to October 3 at the Kasugai Country Club East Course in Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya, Japan.

Athletes will engage in fierce competition for four prestigious sets of medals across events namely men's individual, women's individual, men's team, and women's team.

With one of the youngest squads in the competition, Vietnam will use the Asian Games as an opportunity to measure the progress of its next generation of golfers against the continent's strongest opponents.
