VOV.VN - Vietnamese chess player Le Tuan Minh has marked a new milestone for national chess by securing the gold medal in the blitz event at the Asian Chess Championship 2026, obtaining one of Vietnam's most prominent continental achievements in recent years.

Competitors in the blitz category played a 13-round Swiss-system tournament under tight time controls, demanding exceptional quick-thinking, calculation speed, and mental resilience. Minh displayed stellar form throughout the tournament, going undefeated with 9 wins and 4 draws to claim the championship title.

Notably, the Vietnamese representative faced a series of the continent's top-tier opponents. Across the 13 rounds, he played against 7 of the 8 grandmasters (GMs) seeded in the top 10 prior to the event, yet maintained an undefeated streak. Overcoming elite players from India and China, Asia's chess powerhouses, further highlights the value of his gold medal.

As a leading figure in Vietnamese chess, Minh previously clinched the National Chess Championship in 2020 and has spent years representing the national team in international competitions.

His victory at the 2026 Asian blitz championship further underscores Vietnam's progress in fast-paced chess formats, carrying on a tradition established by predecessors like Le Quang Liem, who won the World Blitz Championship and an Asian blitz gold medal in 2013.

Through a convincing performance and an undefeated run against top-tier grandmasters, Minh brought home a prestigious gold medal and solidified Vietnam's growing stature on the Asian chess map.
