Vietnamese national killed in Japan earthquake, citizen protection underway
VOV.VN - A Vietnamese technical intern was killed and another Vietnamese national injured in a earthquake that struck Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture on July 28, according to information updated by the Labor Management Board of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan as of July 29.
The deceased intern was working at a local factory when an overhead crane collapsed during the quake. Seven other Vietnamese interns at the facility safely escaped.
Embassy representatives have extended condolences to the victim's family and are coordinating with Japanese authorities, the employer, and the union to assist with necessary procedures. Meanwhile, a Vietnamese citizen in Uki City sustained non-life-threatening injuries when a wall at her residence collapsed.
The Vietnamese Embassy and its Labor Management Board are actively carrying out citizen protection measures, maintaining close contact with local authorities, host companies, and labor unions to review the situation."
This includes assessing needs and ensuring safety for over 1,300 Vietnamese interns and workers in the affected area, including those residing in damaged dormitories.
