Vietnam to hold 2026-2027 school opening ceremony on Sept. 5
VOV.VN - Vietnam will hold a nationwide school opening ceremony on September 5, with the 45-minute programme featuring a new focus on the inauguration and opening of inter-level boarding schools in eligible mainland border communes.
Under a plan issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the opening ceremony will be held both in person and online nationwide. The main venue will be Muong Khuong Inter-level Boarding School in Muong Khuong commune, northern Lao Cai province.
The programme, expected to last from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., will be broadcast live on VTV1 and aired live on VOV1. It will include the flag-raising ceremony and the singing of the national anthem, the announcement of the ceremony, a report by the Ministry of Education and Training, remarks by Party and State leaders, and the drum-beating ceremony marking the start of the new school year.
Each province and centrally run city will designate a main venue, with the event chaired by a local leader. In localities with eligible inter-level boarding schools in border communes, one school will be selected as the main venue, while the others will join online.
The Ministry of Education and Training will also select a number of representative educational institutions from different school levels, types and regions to participate in the programme. Other schools may join online or follow the ceremony via television or radio, depending on their circumstances.
The ministry requested that the ceremonial part be brief, solemn, safe and practical. Schools are asked not to prolong the ceremony and to prioritise activities appropriate for students' ages, particularly preschool children and students entering a new level of education.
Before the main opening ceremony, schools may organise activities to welcome new students, cultural performances, organisational arrangements and other activities suited to each educational level. After 8:45 a.m., schools will continue with activities for the beginning of the school year according to their plans.
The simultaneous inauguration, handover and opening of inter-level boarding schools in eligible border communes is a key feature of the 2026-2027 school year. The schools are being developed to provide better learning and living conditions for students in border areas, particularly those facing difficult circumstances.
To ensure that the schools can begin operating in the new school year, preparations are being carried out comprehensively, covering infrastructure, teaching staff, educational equipment, textbooks and facilities for students' daily needs. For boarding schools, dormitories, kitchens, clean water systems and other facilities necessary for students' living conditions must also be completed.
At schools nationwide, local authorities are finalising preparations for the new school year, including repairing and upgrading classrooms, cleaning school facilities, adding teaching equipment and arranging teaching staff. Educational institutions have been asked to review conditions for teaching and learning and ensure that students have sufficient textbooks and necessary learning facilities from the beginning of the school year.
