Singapore, Vietnam enhance cooperation in semiconductor industry development
VOV.VN - Quang Trung Software City (QTSC) coordinated with the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore on July 21 to host the Vietnam-Singapore Semiconductor Industry Cooperation Forum 2026, with a view to boosting semiconductor development and high-quality human resource training.
As semiconductors increasingly serve as a foundational pillar of the digital economy, Vietnam is widely seen as standing before major opportunities to integrate deeper into the global value chain. Ho Chi Minh City, boasting a rich ecosystem of tech enterprises, high-tech parks, academic institutions, and innovation hubs, holds significant advantages in expanding this sector.
Industry experts noted that the 2026-2030 period will be pivotal for Vietnam to complete its semiconductor ecosystem and gradually expand its footprint in global supply chains. Major global chipmakers, including Marvell, Renesas, Infineon, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, and Hana Micron, along with numerous firms specializing in IC design, packaging, and testing, have already established a presence in the country.
According to the "Semiconductors Market in Vietnam 2026-2030" report by Research and Markets, Vietnam's semiconductor market is set to grow by approximately US$2.22 billion over the 2025-2030 period, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of roughly 7.1%.
At the forum, delegates shared insights on Vietnam's semiconductor development strategy, Asian industry trends, opportunities to join global value chains, and solutions for high-quality workforce development.
Cao Xuan Thang, Trade Counselor at the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, highlighted that Vietnam is becoming as an attractive destination for foreign investors thanks to political stability, a young tech-savvy workforce, and favorable incentive policies.
Thang pointed out that bilateral trade between Vietnam and Singapore reached nearly SGD 40 billion in 2025, marking a 26.2% year-on-year increase and setting a record high. This robust commercial foundation serves as a springboard for both nations to deepen semiconductor cooperation, he added.
QTSC Director Tran Huu Dung expressed hope that Quang Trung Software City will become a premier hub for high-tech semiconductor firms while serving as a bridge between businesses, academia, and international partners.
This synergy will help build Ho Chi Minh City's semiconductor ecosystem, enhance innovation capacity, cultivate a high-quality talent pool, and enable Vietnam to participate more deeply in the global semiconductor value chain.
At the forum, QTSC and the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote joint research, technology transfer, and workforce development. Additionally, SSIA, the Semiconductor Education and Human Resources Development Alliance of Vietnam (SEVINA), and FPT Polytechnic College inked a cooperative agreement to train and develop the sector's future workforce.
