RoK firefighters rescue Vietnamese toddler from apartment fire
VOV.VN - Firefighters in the Republic of Korea (RoK) rescued a one-year-old Vietnamese girl from an apartment fire in the city of Daejeon late on July 8 after carrying out an emergency rescue operation.
The child and her mother, a Vietnamese woman in her 20s, were trapped inside their third-floor apartment when the blaze broke out.
According to the Daejeon Dong District Fire Station on July 9, the fire started at about 11:22 p.m. local time (9:22 p.m. Vietnam time) on July 8 in an apartment on the third floor of a residential building in Gayang-dong, Dong District, Daejeon. By the time firefighters arrived, the apartment was engulfed in flames.
The Vietnamese mother and her one-year-old daughter had taken refuge in the bathroom and repeatedly called for help through a small window. Assessing that the child's life was in immediate danger and that deploying an inflatable rescue cushion would take more time, firefighters opted for an emergency rescue.
Following instructions from rescue personnel, the mother lowered her daughter from the third-floor window as firefighters below safely caught the child with a blanket. After the girl reached the ground, the mother jumped onto the inflatable rescue cushion, which had just been deployed.
The mother, her daughter and another resident suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital. Fire officials said none of the three sustained serious injuries.
In addition to rescuing the mother and daughter, firefighters evacuated 15 other residents from the building as a precaution.
The fire was brought under control after about 55 minutes. Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze and assessing the extent of the damage.
