During the working session, the delegation briefed the committee on a nationwide crackdown on intellectual property infractions, prioritizing online copyright violations throughout 2026. Following three months of intensive enforcement, Vietnamese police uncovered 600 case leads, initiated legal proceedings in 205 cases involving 293 defendants, and issued administrative penalties against 1,374 individuals. These enforcement outcomes have substantially elevated public legal compliance and drawn strong praise from international observers, the delegation noted.
In an effort to tackle current global challenges amid rapid digital economic growth, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence, the Vietnamese representatives stressed that intellectual property violations are increasingly transnational, sophisticated, and intertwined with other forms of crime. The Ministry of Public Safety affirmed that combating IP crime is a core task linked to national security and the protection of lawful rights, expressing readiness to exchange information and coordinate investigations into cross-border violations.
For its part, WIPO introduced long-term cooperation programs designed to assist member states in reforming legal frameworks in conformity with the TRIPS Agreement.
WIPO affirmed its readiness to cooperate with Vietnam by providing online training courses, dispatching experts to enhance the capacity of Vietnamese law enforcement, and supplying alert lists of websites showing signs of infringement.
Concluding the meeting, the Vietnamese delegation underscored that establishing close cooperation with WIPO will help enhance the efficacy of domestic IP crime prevention and control, while providing an impetus for Vietnam to actively participate and make practical contributions to joint international efforts in protecting intellectual property and countering cross-border violations.
