Indian Navy warships arrive in HCM City for friendship visit
VOV.VN - A task group of the Indian Navy, comprising INS Udaygiri, INS Taragiri and INS Kavaratti, arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on June 22 for a three-day goodwill visit, underscoring growing defence cooperation and naval exchanges between Vietnam and India.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the Vietnam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and enhance cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.
INS Udaygiri and INS Taragiri arrived at Nha Rong–Khanh Hoi International Port on June 22, while INS Kavaratti later docked at Saigon Port to participate in the visit's activities.
The delegation is led by Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy, and includes 610 officers and sailors.
Representatives from Vietnam’s military, diplomatic agencies and Ho Chi Minh City authorities welcomed the visiting naval contingent.
During their stay, Indian naval personnel will take part in a series of professional, cultural and community engagement activities.
The programme includes a wreath-laying ceremony in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, courtesy calls on Ho Chi Minh City leaders and the Command of Naval Region 2, joint yoga demonstrations aboard the visiting ships, tours of historical and cultural sites, and professional exchanges with the Vietnam People's Navy.
The two navies are also expected to conduct joint exercises at sea, share operational experience and participate in cultural and sporting activities designed to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship.
The warships are scheduled to depart Ho Chi Minh City on June 24 and continue their voyage to Sattahip Naval Base in Thailand.
Vietnam and India elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016 and have steadily expanded cooperation across defence, maritime security, trade, energy, education and people-to-people exchanges.
Defence cooperation has emerged as a key pillar of bilateral relations, with regular high-level exchanges, training programmes, naval visits, capacity-building initiatives and cooperation in maritime security contributing to closer ties between the two countries.
