Fresh impetus for Vietnam-China people-to-people exchange
VOV.VN - Passenger traffic through the Hekou border gate on the China-Vietnam border has exceeded 4 million since the beginning of the year, up 5.24% year-on-year.
Daily traffic through Hekou has averaged nearly 17,800 passenger trips, with peak days surpassing 23,000. These figures make Hekou the busiest international border crossing in Yunnan province by passenger volume.
This growth is stimulated by activities under the "Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026–2027." According to the Hekou Immigration Inspection Station, border authorities have cleared 20,440 tour groups involving 256,600 cross-border tourists since the start of the year.
The rising visitor numbers have boosted local economic activities, including tourism, lodging, catering, and cross-border trade. Notably, the growing stream of Vietnamese tourists traveling to China continues to add fresh momentum to bilateral people-to-people exchanges.
To handle the sustained high volume of travelers, the Hekou Immigration Inspection Station introduced an online pre-declaration system for cross-border tour groups, helping shorten clearance times. Border officers have also set up multilingual guidance posts to assist foreign passengers and deployed real-time translation devices to make clearance faster and more convenient.
Hekou is the largest land border crossing between China's Yunnan province and Vietnam. Connected by both highway and rail networks, the border gate serves as a vital artery for travel, commerce, and tourism between the two countries.
