Another site named after President Ho Chi Minh in Russia's Far East
VOV.VN - A bus stop in Vladivostok has been officially renamed "Ho Chi Minh Square", adding another site named after President Ho Chi Minh in Russia's Far East.
The Vladivostok city administration announced the decision on July 8. It was approved at the June meeting of the City's Place Names Commission following a proposal by the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association.
The renaming means that, alongside the Ho Chi Minh Monument and Ho Chi Minh Park, Vladivostok now has another site named in honour of President Ho Chi Minh. The new name has also been updated on the 2GIS online map, replacing the former Sportivnaya bus stop.
According to the Vladivostok Department of Culture, the new name reflects the bus stop's location near Ho Chi Minh Park and the Ho Chi Minh Monument. The monument, presented to Vladivostok by Vietnam in 2019, has become a symbol of friendship between the two nations.
According to Nguyen Viet Kien, Consul General of Vietnam in Vladivostok, the renaming forms part of an initiative to honour President Ho Chi Minh, who laid the foundation for and devoted himself to forging friendship between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union, and between Vietnam and the Russian Federation today.
He said the decision also recognises the contributions of the Vietnamese community, the Russia–Vietnam Friendship Association and the Consulate General of Vietnam in Vladivostok to the local community. It will be a source of pride for Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Vladivostok and across Russia's Far East, while marking another milestone in the friendship between the two countries and their people.
