According to the Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command, fishing vessel QNg 95267 TS encountered strong winds and rough seas while returning to Truong Sa Lon (Spratly Island).
The vessel reportedly took on water before sinking. A nearby fishing boat, QNg 95555 TS, quickly responded to the distress call and rescued 33 fishermen, who were later brought safely to Truong Sa Lon Island for shelter and medical observation. Three crew members remain missing.
Border guard forces, together with fishing vessels operating in the area, are continuing search operations while monitoring weather conditions to ensure the safety of rescue teams.
According to preliminary information, the fishing boat had left Quang Ngai province with 36 fishermen for fishing grounds near the Spratly Islands before it encountered severe weather en route to Truong Sa Lon.
Contact with the vessel was lost on July 24 after it sailed into rough seas. Family members later learned that strong winds and heavy waves had caused water to flood the boat, eventually sinking it.
The Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command said rescue forces are fully engaged in the search for the three missing fishermen, working closely with vessels operating in the area while closely monitoring weather conditions to support ongoing rescue efforts.
