All preparations for the great national elections have been completed and deputies to the 13th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 term will be elected across the country.
Located in a remote border area where living conditions are difficult because of poor infrastructure, Quan Ba district in Ha Giang province has still prepared carefully for the elections to ensure they will take place on schedule.
Lenh Xuan Kiem, Chairman of Quan Ba district’s People’s Council said, “To date, all preparations for the elections have been finalised and Quan Ba is ready for the special event. Local voters want to cast their ballots in person, aiming to reach 100 percent voter turnout.
Along with remote Quan Ba, all villages and districts across the country are beautified with flags, flowers and posters, showing their readiness for the election day.
Nguyen Sy Dung, Vice Chairman of the NA Office and spokesperson for the Steering Sub-Committee for Communication under the Central Election Council, said apart from 15 provinces and cities that held early elections, the whole country has been preparing for election day.
So far, the election preparations have been taken seriously and people have been responsible following the regulations.
Voters have met with NA candidates and the voting lists have also posted according to law. Security has also been tightened to ensure election day will be a safe and festive event for everyone.
Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs Tran Huu Thang said all organisations involved with the elections must prepare action plans to cope with unpredictable situations such as natural disasters and all localities should double-check their preparations and voting lists to ensure absolute safety for the elections.
Radio and TV communication should be intensified to give voters the full information about the candidates so the election will be a great success, Mr Thang stressed.
Nguyen Viet Thuy, a voter from Tu Liem district in Hanoi said, “I am very much looking forward to election day because my ballot, one of millions of votes throughout the country will contribute to deciding the best NA deputies who will work hard for the people and the nation. I hope the newly-elected deputies will be honest, frank and concerned about issues related to people’s lives and the country’s socio-economic development.”
Preparations for elections completed
In accordance with the NA Standing Committee’s inspection plan, the Election Council has so far organised three inspections of preparations for the elections.
From May 3-18, the Fatherland Front held meetings between candidates and voters at all levels to inform the electorate. The meetings took place in an open, frank and constructive atmosphere, laying the foundation for voters to select capable deputies.
Information and communication about the elections has been disseminated by localities nationwide through posters and banners in residential areas and at polling stations, as well as via mass media and theatrical performances.
Settling complaints and denunciations related to the elections has also been conducted in line with the regulations.
Overall, preparations for the elections have been made thoroughly and carefully, promoting the strength of the political system from the central to the grass roots level.
Tens of millions of voters from 91,438 constituencies in 63 cities and provinces are expected to cast their ballots on May 22 for deputies for the 13th NA and People’s Councils for the 2011-2016 term.
Voters will elect 500 NA deputies and 301,954 representatives to People’s Councils at all levels.
